What is my skin type?

There are three main skin types and it’s important to know what type you have in order to take best care of it: combination, dry and oily skin type.

Combination skin type is probably the most desired because this skin type is balanced equally between dryness and oiliness. With combination skin type the T zones tend to be oily while the rest of the face is semi dry.

Dry skin type lacks moisture and tends to flake.

Oily skin type tends to break out a lot more than other skin types.

If you don’t know the type of skin you have, just observe. Does your skin tend to flake and breakout? It’s probably dry and needs hydration. Does your skin tend to break out a lot? You may have oily skin type.

Its really important to use a specific regimen for your skin type. To make your life easier Mahnoush and I created printable day/night regimens for each skin type. Just print it out or save on your phone and follow step by step.

Note:

*Make sure to remove all make up prior to a night time regimen. In all cases, retinol should be applied one pea size amount for the entire face. More than that will sauce flaking and peeling.

*You should never have anything on top of retinol.

For combination skin, use a cream (water based) moisturizer during the day, face oil at night. If you’ve used a spot treatment during the day, just use retinol at night.

For dry skin type, you want to shop around for a gentle hydrating cleanser.

At night, give your moisturizer an hour before applying retinol. If it’s your first time using retinol, begin by using it once every two days. And if you’re still flaky, give your skin two hours after moisturizer before applying retinol.

Continue observing your skin and slowly you will build tolerance.

For oily skin type one must wait just 30 minutes before applying retinol. Serum is not needed for oily skin because this skin type tends to have acne and inflammation. Serum would further clog up the pores.
